Apple’s iPhone is "irrelevant" claims Microsoft

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Apple's iPhone is "irrelevant" claims Microsoft Microsoft does not like anything that might threaten its dominance in any market especially anything that comes from chief rival and arch nemesis, Apple. ZDnet Australia has learned Microsoft is none to keen on the Apple iPhone, claiming it is “irrelevant.”

About the iPhone a Microsoft executive had this to say about it, “It’s a closed device that you cannot install applications on, and there’s no support for Office documents. If you’re an enterprise and want to roll out line of business applications, it’s just not an option. Even using it as a heavy messaging device will be a challenge.”

Well, I’ve got news for Microsoft, it’s not targeted at corporate or enterprise users, it’s targeted at people who want a cool phone that runs a stripped down version of OSX, a tactile feedback touch sensitive display, iPod functionality and internet browsing. It’s a fun phone. Business phones are ugly, bulky and functional but they are not fun to use.

Microsoft seems to think that its Windows Mobile 6 operating system is the end all be all of the mobile phone/PDA world. It’s not. I prefer the Palm OS where Windows Mobile 6 is okay and it can take care of business users in droves, is that really the customer Apple wants, I’m sure they’d like them but the answer is no. Think of the Apple commercials, picture the business user as… well… as the guy in the suit, not very fun, is he? Then picture the typical Apple user as the guy dressed down in jeans, fun, see how that works?

Still many more people are familiar with Windows Mobile 6 as ugly and bulky as those devices are, I can’t think of a single one I actually like. The iPhone may not be as functional as mobile Windows devices are but does it need to be, I don’t think so.

The iPhone is going to do what most users want, Internet browsing (and web email access), music playback and a cool looking phone to boot. What, no Office support, I don’t need no stinking Office support!

Granted there is more software for the Windows Mobile 6 platform but does Microsoft honestly think Apple is just going to throw the iPhone out on the market and NOT develop new and exciting applications for it. What are they smoking up in Redmond and where can I get some?

Apple had no comment on the situation.

The iPhone has no tactile feedback. Get your facts straight.

I don’t understand why the iPhone would not support MS-Office applications? I have MS-Office installed on my MacBook, I am sure their are readers out their that could be developed as widgets (Hint Hint). I also wonder why Microsoft wouldn’t produce a Mac-Office Viewer set for the iPhone if they are that worried about losing market share (Humm) Oh Well guess we will have to settle for iWork on the iPhone which in ‘07 might just have everything that we might need. Bye Bye Microsoft

You are an idiot and the iPhone is a piece of junk. It WILL flop… watch. I am glad you wasted your money, too, becuase your donation is part of my paycheck (I work for Apple).
