Steve Jobs escapes frying pan; Apple execs dropped in fire

By Triston McIntyre

Steve Jobs escaped frying pan; Apple execs dropped in fireLet’s not put any false airs on; we were all happy to hear Steve Jobs is out of the SEC’s sights. So happy, in fact, we’re pretty much a-OK with whatever else happens to those responsible for the shady back stock options scandal that has tainted Apple as of late. Unfortunately, someone forgot to knock on the wood, because Nancy Heinin, former Apple senior vice president, secretary, and general council, has caught the loving attention of the SEC.

For those of you that found Nancy’s “retirement” only months prior to Apple announcing the back-dated stock investigation, you may very well have been on to the same painfully obvious thing the SEC is pursuing. Heinin sold her $7.5 million shares of Apple and jumped ship last May.

World of Apple continues:

“In addition to the current investigation, the SEC is said to also be looking into a second case whereby former Chief Financial Officer Fred Anderson and Heinen were granted stock approved by Steve Jobs, the grant, which the paper’s sources say was approved by Jobs in late December 2000, would normally have been dated the following Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001. However, it wasn’t finalized until Jan. 31.”

Tsk tsk. I suppose if I were in the uncomfortable position of staying and facing the firing squad, or running and spending a few bucks in Fiji before the lawman put an end to my runnin’, I’d probably opt for a few umbrella-accessorized fruity drinks as well.

Best of wishes to those still entangled in this debacle; we would never wish anything bad on the good people at Apple (past or present). Unfortunately, the light at the end of the tunnel seems rather dim with the SEC looming in the doorway…
