The iPhone and Leopard delay, what is Apple doing?
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Seeking Alpha thinks Apple is doing the right thing regarding delaying Leopard and releasing the iPhone in June. This has resulted in the fact that the final version of Leopard will not be ready for Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference in June of this year. They will instead be showing off a “near final” version which will include a preview of all the features to be present in the final version.
The iPhone will be out in June, yay. I’d rather have myself this particular BlackBerry. The iPhone is pretty and cool looking but it is lacking some functionality. I’m one of those people that would like to at least replace my PC laptop with a MacBook Pro. But, I can’t do that. With possibly newer MacBook Pro displays on the horizon as well as Leopard, what’s the incentive? There is none. Apple has yet to reveal any type of free or discounted Leopard upgrade program and this would help sales in the interim.
And yet, Apple knows what it is doing. My personal opinion is that they are not doing the right thing and it still remains to be seen if this strategy will pan out in the long run. I don’t want it to be a disaster for Apple but by the same token I don’t want it to completely fail, I’ll settle for people being disappointed with the iPhone and fewer Mac sales because of hardware upgrades and the upcoming Leopard release.
If Leopard were delayed because of a widescreen touch based video iPod, well, I might be able to swallow that a little easier. I don’t want the iPhone, it needs added capabilities and longer battery life, maybe revision two will be better, until then, I’m going to leave it on the shelf and go with a BlackBerry.

Well… I don’t know if it is going to be a failure or not, yet. No one does… no one can possibly predict accurately what is going to happen but for now speculation and guesses will have to do.

I would rather wait for Leopard to be released in June or even September because I don’t want to buy buggy sofware. Even if Leopard is released in June I will wait a few months so bugs are ironed out. It will be interesting to see how well the iphone works in real life. I look forward to it. With regards to using Tiger I am very happy and also with my Mac Book Pro which I bought in February this year. The only thing that concerns me is the volume levels on my Macboo Pro, they arn’t that loud in comparison to my old Compaq computer. I do not know if its a hardware problem or software.
