Apple rumored to release updated iMacs at WWDC
There’s nothing like the tingly feeling in the pit of your stomach as a Steve Jobs’ keynote address comes to a close; mainly because Steve loves giving his fans a generally exciting parting announcement. Drawbob at Looprumors believes that this year’s goody will be a revamped iMac, and back in black at that.
The rumor is said to be based on the recent popularity of the black iPods, followed by the success of black Macbooks. Logic might follow that Apple would move to implement black chic in-home as well.
Already confirmed for the upcoming WWDC is a nearly-completed beta of the much-anticipated OS X Leopard. However, the recent dissent within the Mac community regarding Leopard’s delay have left many hoping for something really special to debut (or at least see some changes) this Worldwide Developer’s Conference.
Could a black iMac really succeed? Many Mac fans were fond of the black Macbook due to the flat, almost rubberized texture of the portable’s casing, and the black iPod was popular simply so people could have something a bit different from every other media player (assuming the portable media player world is dominantly ruled by the classic white iPod).
On the flip side, one of the distinctive Apple attributes is the sexy, shiny, awe-inducing beauty of the classic white casing. I wouldn’t be suprised if Apple tossed in a slightly faster processor and larger hard drive to accompany the black casing, or perhaps a slightly stronger GPU; the black Macbook comes equipped with a bit more muscle, but in the end, a black Macbook costs about $50 more for the flat black.
Honestly, I don’t see the black iMac taking off in homes. Maybe that’s just because I feel the white is more impressive when you have your friends over for dinner, but the classic white says Apple, and Apple says…well, whatever it is that Apple says. Its a unique statement, I can’t explain it, so figure it out for yourself!
