New ‘Get a Mac’ ads slam Windows Vista
Apple has unleashed three new ‘Get A Mac’ ads in the US. The ads feature Justin Long and John Hodgman in their familiar roles as Mac and PC. Two of the ads, Choose a Vista and Party is Over, go straight against Windows Vista.
In Choose a Vista ad, Hodgman is seen standing by a huge tombola wheel while trying to figure out which version on Windows Vista he needs.
“Vista comes in six versions and I don’t know which one I need. I could pay too much and get more than I need, or pay too little and get a system which doesn’t do much at all,” says PC.
“Macs all ship with one system that offers you everything you need,” Long replies.
The Vista focus continues in the next ad, Party Is Over, where Hodgman complains about the release of Microsoft’s new Vista OS, setting the chat in a scene that shows the tail-end of the Vista release party.
“I’ve had to get a new graphics card, new memory and some of my peripherals have stopped working,” complains PC.
The final ad, Genius, sees Long introduce Hodgman to a Mac Genius, and explains that Mac Geniuses are at each Apple retail store to answer questions. Hodgman tries to stump the Genius but fails, ending with, “On a scale of one to ten how much do I loathe Mac,” then finally admitting that she’s good after she answers “11”.
In my opinion, Hodgman is the main reason why this series of ads is not getting boring.
Clearly, Apple sees Windows Vista as an easy target. There’s no need for the company to exaggerate too much to get the message across.
