Motorola steps in the ring with iPhone as RAZR 2

Though there have numerous copy cats and impersonators popping up around the iPhone’s glamorous coming out party (thanks, all of you in Asia who fear no copyright or patent infringement), Motorola has officially stepped up to the plate with its own next-gen smart phone competitor: the RAZR 2.

Today, Motorola announced the successor to the most widely popular cell phone to date, the RAZR, its bigger, badder, more attractive and more efficient brother, the RAZR 2 (aptly named, no?). Though you may think its just another RAZR knockoff (see KRZR), this has some prett amazing features that might just knock your socks off:

- available in 3.6 Mbps HSDPA, GSM/EDGE, or EV-DO models

- include’s Motorola’s newest Linux platform

- a 2 megapixel camera

- full html web browser

- all the bluetooth connectivity you can handle

- 2 inch external display and an interior display 2x as detailed as the original RAZR

- a new feature Motorola is calling “Crystal Talk,” which automatically adjusts speakers and volumes based on ambient noise

- Windows Media Player synchronization

- damned sexy case design

Motorola announced the GSM versions will be the first ones to hit the market, unsurprisingly slated to surface near the beginning of July (hmm, they’re not competing with anyone, are they?). CDMA versions will follow in later months.

If you can stomach the fact that it isn’t an iPhone and you really still like that chic styling, this might just be the phone for you. Who are we kidding? The iPhone still demands our souls…
