The MacBook becomes a Mac tablet by Modbook

By Jonathan Schlaffer

The MacBook becomes a Mac tablet by Modbook You may have heard of the ModBook by now, it is a customized MacBook by Other World Computing that features a 13.3” touch sensitive rotating display. But it manages to up the ante over the standard issue features of the MacBook that you can order from Apple, not enough to justify the price and it’s up to you if you think the ModBook is worth the premium.

Besides the 13.3” rotating glossy touch sensitive display, the ModBook can be equipped with up to 500GB of storage (though that version lacks an optical drive), up to 3GB of memory over the standard 2GB available from Apple and up to a 3 year warranty.

The top end ModBook will cost you a whopping $3671 exactly not including tax or shipping; I just hope shipping is free. This makes it the most expensive Mac laptop today. To top it all off, you can only preorder a ModBook as it is not actually shipping out until July. But at least you’re getting an aircraft grade magnesium case, yay.

If the touch display or rotating abilities aren’t your thing then just go with a standard MacBook minus 1GB of memory or if you’re looking at the same price range a top end MacBook Pro from Apple will cost you about $200 less and you’re getting a better graphics card.

Where did you acquire the information that the ModBook has a rotating display? It is my understanding that this is a “slate” tablet and that Axiotron is still trying to configure the software to change screen orientation from landscape to portrait (a different subject altogether). It sure would be nice if it had a rotating display.

It would almost have to rotate around if it was to fold flat like it does in the picture, just like any other tablet does.

I didn’t mean rotate from landscape to portrait, rotate around as in rotate backwards and fold flat… as I said above.
