As with many Mac and Apple rumors, only a part of the recent buzz was correct; though talks of both performance improvements and an upgrade to Intel’s new Santa Rosa mobile chipset were rumored, the Apple store recently went down and came back with a refreshed line of MacBooks, but Santa Rosa didn’t make the cut.

There has been quite a bit of room for I-told-you-so’s in regards to Apple’s astonishingly rapid growth in its user base in the last few months; not only has the general overall Mac usage increased from a 3% market share to 6%, Apple now holds a substantial 10% of the laptop market. However, the real market in which Mac usage is growing is college campuses, where Macs are not only more reliable and easier to use, but are rapidly becoming the hottest status gadgets on campus.

iPod domination is not enough for Apple, they’re here to conquer the world and conquer it they shall. With figures just released from NPD group, sales of Mac based laptops were up for the month of March by itself but still slightly down from February.

Apple’s soon to be launched iPhone will not be attractive to business users without Office documents support, and will be irrelevant to enterprise users if third party applications can’t be developed for it, according to Microsoft.

After being on the market for a good while, Apple’s Core 2 Duo laptop models are well due for a little spit shine (or just an upgrade). What better to include in the much-appreciated upgrades than Intel’s latest and greatest mobile processor, Santa Rosa?

Apple has filed a patent that may point the way towards smaller iPhones and touch-sensitive iPods, according to a filing published today. Titled “Back-Side Interface for Hand-Held Devices,†the patent described the top side would display the output on a smaller screen and the bottom side would receive user input via a large touch and force sensitive interface.

Apple has informed the Securities and Exchange Commission that both the iPhone and Leopard have achieved “technological feasibility,” meaning they are near ready for a public release; is Apple planning a surprise full release of its groundbreaking operating system?

Or at least it does in a patent filed by Apple regarding its “next gen†iPod. But isn’t every iPod the “next gen.†I’m getting a little confused, back to the matter at hand; Apple seems to think that the touch part and screen part don’t necessarily have to go together.

The number of people surfing the Web using a Mac has doubled in the past eight months to 6%, but this number is still not enough to attract hackers’ attention. It makes me wonder whether the commonly-held “Mac is more secure than Windows” belief is true?
