MacBook Pro line goes Santa Rosa, LED (for real)The rumors were true! It was bound to happen at some point in time; Apple’s MacBook Pro line has received the coveted Santa Rosa chipset upgrade as well as LED displays, and a few other upgrade goodies today. After all, us Mac forecasters can’t possibly be wrong all the time, could we?

The new units boast the following features:

2.2 and 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo Santa Rosa processors

Nvidia 8600m GT video cards (at either 128 or 256 Mb)

Mercury-free LED displays

Minimum 2 Gb Ram (with room for up to 4 Gb)

Upgraded 8x slot-loading optical drive

Updated Airport 802.11n wireless cards

Significant improvements, eh? Prices for the 15″ model start at $1999 and the 17″ model begins at $2799, so start customizing!

Also, rumors are floating around that the iMac could be catching an update in the immediate future as well; TUAW is floating a rumor that the next iteration could be a brushed metallic iMac with a more cinema-display-like form factor. Here’s to hoping.

I wonder how much I could get for the macbook on eBay… jewnbug wants the new macbook pro.

I also have pretty much decided on getting the iPhone if I can get it on Amazon with one of their rebates. It’s worth getting Cingular *cringe* to get the iPhone I’d say.
