What better way to showcase your next newest flagship product than to put up oversized display units with real LCD screens? There is no better way. Apple and AT&T stores are putting up oversized demo units of the iPhone, for now they just appear to looping a video demonstrating the features.

Not all AT&T or Apple stores have the displays yet, my guess is the smaller stores won’t get one but you can bet the high traffic stores will. Neither Apple store nor AT&T employees were able to provide any further information.  TUAW and MacRumors were able to snap some images of units that had been/were being set up.

At least now we have something to entertain ourselves with until the iPhone pricing is final and the plan pricing that AT&T is so annoyingly not providing is released. It wouldn’t kill them to let those who actually plan on purchasing the iPhone know how much of their yearly salary is going to be wasted on a glitzy, overpriced toy.

Not that buying glitzy overpriced toys is a bad thing but I have a bad feeling about the iPhone, an iPod, it is not. I would gladly pick up a touch screen iPod, how about it Apple, release some new iPods before I’m tempted to get one of those shiny Red iPod Nanos.

While you will be able to pick up an iPhone in the Apple store, you will have to head over to AT&T to get the plan, someone tell me how this makes sense. I’d rather just walk into an AT&T store, get the iPhone, get the plan and be done with it. Why in the world would I want to deal with two retailers as opposed to one?
