New iMacs snag low-profile MacBook keyboards
As the next iteration of iMacs is due to make its debut next quarter, information is starting to leak out of Cupertino regarding the iMac’s new design: if you felt that the last iMac touted too soft and squishy of a keyboard, rumor has it that not only will the entire machine be sleeker and slimmer, the keyboard, also, will be smaller, thinner, and more firm…very much like today’s MacBooks.
Apple Insider reports that Apple will be releasing the next iMacs with an updated case design as well as a redesigned keyboard. Though the iMac will only be available in 20 and 24 inch sizes, it will purportedly boast a brushed aluminum case of smaller dimensions, along with a low-profile, ergonomic keyboard that will deliver superior tactile feedback over the currently mushy keys of today’s iMac.
Apple has already made the new design official, saying, “…features a unique keyboard design that sits flush against the bed for a sleeker, lower profile…You’ll also find a firm touch when typing…That ought to make your fingers happy.”
Such a change is a welcome one to what is currently an under-achieving keyboard that is difficult to gauge keystrokes on. Hopefully the new keyboard will drop below the now lofty price of $59.99 for a wireless keyboard…but don’t hold your breath.
