Working around the iPhone’s synchronization oversight
So you got yourself an iPhone, but were surprised to find out that it doesn’t support Microsoft Exchange. So kiss your hopes of accessing your corporate email account goodbye? Not yet, there’s still hope, and that hope is with Syncronica Mobile Gateway 3.0.
Syncronica’s software will connect with the iPhone’s IMAP/SMTP mail client to hook the iPhone to corporate email servers. It doesn’t matter whether your corporate email account is running on Lotus Domino, Sun Java Enterprise System or Microsoft Exchange. Once Syncronica’s software establishes a connection to the iPhone’s IMAP/SMTP, you’ll have quick access to your corporate email.
Syncronica like other mobile phone synchronization applications effectively synchronizes entries on the iPhones calendar and contact lists. And it also works with SyncML-based-email-programs.
Now, that the iPhone’s synchronization flaw seemed to be addressed, the question is how much are users who paid so dearly for the iPhone units, are willing to shoulder the added costs for a standard mobile functionality such as email synchronization?
Email synchronization of mobile phones is a standard feature of high-end mobile phones, how come the “ultimate phone” doesn’t have it on its first release? Let’s just hope that it comes with the next version of the iPhone. Or else, we might as well find other mobile phones which are not overly hyped, prized and talked about but over flowing with nifty features and functions and full third party applications support.

Doesn’t work with Exchange? Not true. I have three iPhone users on my network who are able to synch to our hosted Exchange server that has IMAP configured. In fact, when you set up email on the iPhone there is a big Exchange button to select. Please clarify that the iPhone *does* work with Exchange as long as the Exchange server is configured to use the IMAP protocol.

Speaking of syncML in latest cell phones, has anyone ever bothered syncing their contacts, calendar, sms, etc ? I was looking for such a service and found ZYB (http://zyb.com). It’s cool to have my phonebook online so i can access numbers when i dont have my phone available.
