Rumor:iPod 6th gen to not have many changes
By Sean P. Aune
Think Secret is reporting that rumors are abounding in regards to the 6th generation iPods are not only close to release, but not all that different from the current generation.
If the reports are to be believed, people who were expecting what amounted to an ‘iPhone lite” as the next generation of the seminal DAP will be sorely disappointed.
Rumors indicate that the next iteration could hit stores as soon as early August, but without the longed for touchscreen. Instead we can look forward to a shortened player by nearly an inch, but it will maintain its current 320X240 resolution display and click-wheel.
In other possibilities, it is said that consumers will be seeing a re-worked iPod OS, but not the rumored OS X base that the player’s phone cousin sports. Multiple colors, such as you see on the Nano’s and Shuffle’s currently, may be a possibility, along with a less fingerprint prone version of the black cased player.
No reported word as to the potential hard drive capacity, but with more advances in data recording, it would not be surprising to see the top end of the line break through the 100gb threshold.
As with all Apple rumors, one will never know for sure until either Steve Jobs does one of his famous press events, or they just show up in stores with no warning.
