Fake Steve Jobs revealed as technology writer
For the past 14 months, the world has wondered who the person was behind The Fake Steve Jobs blog, and now we know.
For those unfamiliar with the blog, it was the supposed personal journal of someone claiming to be Steve Jobs, the head of Apple computers. It was always very clear it was satire, but that didn’t stop it from being hilarious when you pictured Jobs, in his trademark turtleneck, saying these things.
The mystery, which many had tried to crack, was finally solved by Brad Stone of The New York Times. Two pieces of info came his way when it turned out “Fake Steve” was going to be writing a novel. When the manuscript was shown to publishers, they were told that the author was already a published novelist and was the technology writer for a major business magazine.
Armed with these bits of info, Mr. Stone set about comparing the writings of Fake Steve to technology writers who had published a book. This finally led him to Dan Lyons of Forbes magazine. After looking through Mr. Lyons personal blog and his writings for Forbes, Mr. Stone was sure he was on to the real life person behind the fake blog.
Mr. Stone reached Mr. Lyons while on vacation in Maine, whose initial reaction was being stunned at how long it had taken the world to figure it out.
Mr. Lyons will go forward with the publication of his new novel, “Options: The Secret Life of Steve Jobs, a Parody.” There has been no word as of yet if he will continue the blog.

Hey, hang on, I’m confused, that guy doesn’t look anything like Steve Jobs. Why would he go around pretending to be Steve Jobs?
