Rumor:New iPods coming September 5th?

By Sean P. Aune

New iPods coming September 5th? In what seems to be becoming a rumor-of-the-day dance, there’s a new one circulating that the upcoming iPods may hit as early as September 5th.

Ars Technica is reporting that they have spoken to a source inside Apple that is hinting at the next major Apple media event coming as soon as September 5th.

As the popular tech site correctly points out, the 5th is a Wednesday and breaks with the Apple tradition of announcing new products on Tuesdays.  The “company insider” suggests this is due to the extended Labor Day weekend in the United States, but it still seems too far out of the ordinary procedure at this point.

As we have previously pointed out, we here at BLORGE have been suggesting that September 18th as the date for 6th Gen iPods (the iPod Touch?) for a number of reasons; the biggest one is the end of this year’s back to school promotion being on September 16th.

AppleInsider is reporting there will be four iPod versions in the next release, but since there are only currently three levels (Shuffle, Nano, Video), there is a lot of speculation what the fourth may be.  Ars Technica has some speculation we will see two levels of Video, click wheel based and iPhone type full screen, which would obviously be the rumored iPod Touch.

The time leading up to an iPod release is always a crazy time, and it seems unlikely this will be the end of the rumors.

I think it’s pretty much final they’re coming out, but I’m wondering with what features: http://thenewsroom.com/details/662166?c_id=wom-bc-js
