It’s a week until the beat goes on… what does Steve Jobs have in-store for all of us?

With the announcement on Tuesday of the next Apple media event scheduled for September 5th in San Francisco, speculation is at a fever pitch as to what will be introduced.

All we know for certain is the invite features the Cover Flow interface and the slug line “The beat goes on.”, you would guess this implies iPods, and that really is a given, but what do we know beyond that?

iPod Shuffle - Rumors are circulating that there may be a (PRODUCT) RED addition, but no word beyond that of an update to the line.

iPod Nano - Many rumors abound of a form factor change, updates to 16GB, video screen of 320X240 being added on, and five new colors.

iPod - Here’s where the rumors go nuts.  We’re hearing about the iPod Touch, of course, which would be the full-screen, touch activated version.  Memory rumors go from NAND Flash memory to a 160GB hard drive.  As for appearance it is said be like a thicker iPhone.

The real odd rumor is there may be a “fourth iPod”.  Would this be something new, or a totally new device? 

And, of course, we are hearing it the Nanos and “Touch” will run on a scaled down version of Mac OS X, which isn’t a huge shock since that’s what powers the iPhone.

September 5th is approaching quickly, but not fast enough for the iPod-fiends desperate for a new fix.
