Apple didn’t tell us everything: iPod Touch may have bluetooth

September 6, 2007

Although unconfirmed by Apple, speculation around the web surrounding the pictures below says that Apple is secretly including bluetooth with the iPod Touch.

If you look at the picture closely, you should notice a small bluetooth icon on the top right corner of the iPod even though the official tech specs on Apple’s website for the Touch don’t include bluetooth. The first picture was taken off of Apple’s German website. The second picture was taken from Apple’s US online store.

Including bluetooth in the iPod Touch without telling the public wouldn’t be surprising. Recently, Apple started including 802.11n chips in some Macs and told the public that they only came with 802.11a/b/g only to release a firmware update later to unleash the wireless-n capabilities of their computers.

It is also possible that an Apple employee got lazy and used the screen of an old iPhone render instead of making a new one from scratch, but Engadget reports a "pretty decent source" told them the iPod Touch internals are very similar to the iPhone internals and that their will be bluetooth in the iPod touch. It’s just not not activated yet, similar to the situation with 802.11n chips and Macs. The gadget blog also took a look at the Touch’s FCC filing report and noticed that it was only cleared for Wi-Fi so far.
