Apple sells 1,000,000 iPhones in 74 days

By Sean P. Aune

Apple sells 1,000,000 iPhones in 74 days It took two years for the original iPod to hit the 1,000,000 mark, but the iPhone took only 74 days.  What does this say for the future of Apple as a brand?

For any gadget project to sell 1,000,000 units is good, but to sell that number in 74 days is jaw-dropping.  Apple has proudly announced that they have reached that milestone as of today.

“One million iPhones in 74 days—it took almost two years to achieve this milestone with iPod,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We can’t wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season.”

The original goal had been to reach this benchmark by the end of the year, but now that they have broken through that barrier, and lowered their price, could their December 2008 goal of 10,000,000 be so crazy?  With foreign releases also on the horizon, it certainly seems that number is within their grasp.
