Apple blacklists iPhone hackers, unless they have great people skills
So you like the iPhone, hate AT&T, and use T-Mobile thanks to some great hackers out on the net. Well, if something happens to your phone, it’s going to an uphill battle to get any service from Apple.
Jason D. O’Grady of ZDNet just reported that he received an email from a colleague that tried to get Apple to service less than two week old hacked iPhone. The phone was getting its service through T-Mobile.
Apple refused to service the phone and told O’Grady’s friend that his iPhone is blacklisted against any future service. I’d call the Apple employees who decided to do this jerks, but that wouldn’t be very nice.
Anyway, thanks to his outstanding people skills, he was able to convince the manager to return it, although he had to pay a 10% restocking fee.
O’Grady’s friend ends the email by digging deep into the past by bringing up an ironic achievement made by old school Jobs and Woz:
Pretty Scary! Didn’t Steve and Woz get their start in college by selling a device that would “hack” pay phones and give people free long distance?
Steve, when did you turn to the dark side? Was it the call of all the money, women (men?), and power? What justifies the betrayal you’ve bestowed upon us? I guess business politics, power, and money change people. I think it was the deal with AT&T that tied the final knot between Steve and the dark side, but it was inevitable, no? He’s no longer a geek’s hero despite how much we love/hate his company.
So if you’re planning on getting service on your hacked iPhone, make sure to remove any hacks unless you’re confident in your outstanding people skills.
