Just a reminder: Starbucks Wi-Fi iTunes store kicked off in NY today
By Danny Mendez
This is just a reminder for all you who still love iTunes: The Starbucks Wi-Fi iTunes store kicked off today in New York city.
Gizmodo was there for event, which featured Starbucks CEO Howard Shultz and iTunes Vice President Eddy Cue with John Legend as a guest. Event-goers got free Song of the Day cards to let them test out the service.
The event didn’t really kick off the service as it won’t be available until tomorrow, and, for now, it will only be available to NYC. According to Apple, the service should be available to most major metropolitan areas in the US by the end of ‘08:
- Seattle - October 2, 2007
- San Francisco Bay Area - November 7, 2007
- Los Angeles - February 2008
- Chicago - March 2008
The service will allow you to buy whatever song is playing in the Starbucks that you’re in via the Wi-Fi iTunes song on your iPod Touch, iPhone, or laptop (which would use the regular iTunes store). You can find out more about the service here.
Personally, I’d rather not deal with the iTunes store especially with the introduction of the DRM-free Amazon MP3 Download service, but, if you absolutely must buy music on the go, you can now buy it at Starbucks.
