Apple’s iPod nano becomes fire hazard
If you’re one of those silly people who likes to keep their portable player in a pocket while listening to it then you may want to pay attention to this. A man who was listening to his iPod Nano caught fire while it was stored away in his pocket.
As you may be aware, just about every portable device is powered by a Lithium Ion or Lithium Polymer battery both of which, if not manufactured correctly can overheat and catch fire. It happens more often with laptops but nothing can be ruled out these days.
WSB Channel 2 reports that Danny Williams was listening to his first generation iPod Nano when it burst into flames and caught his pants on fire while he was at work in the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
He and his family say it’s not about what happened but about how bad things “could have been” if it had happened while he was driving or even arrested by the TSA.
I don’t know why an iPod would actually be in your pocket and on while driving but I guess that’s beside the point. As I’m sure we all know, it is illegal to listen to a portable music player through headphones while driving a vehicle of any kind.
Apple has vowed to replace the iPod Nano but refused to discuss if this would be a problem with current Nanos or how widespread the problem may be.

It is pretty damn sexy. In fact, if you’re looking for an MP3 player that will impress your friends you can stop reading now. You won’t find anything else that even comes close to the iPod nano in terms of looks. A word of warning though – I had been planning on getting the black version of the nano and so had a play with it in the shop and listen to music with my new Sennheiser Sport Line ipod headphone. Have to say, it is a magnet for finger marks. Not light, hardly noticeable, marks: within seconds of picking it up it turns from being this beautiful design into a greasy, horrible mess. Because of this I went with the white one instead.
But I’ve just got it for 3 weeks, and then ,I saw your article. It really makes me embarrassed for I always bring it in my pocket. Now it will be a dangerous act, it’s so stimulative! What can I DO?
Does it meant I would have to give it up or somethinger! Apple,do not scare me…
