Rumor: AppleTV to gain optical drive and HD content to become Mac Nano
The rumor mill is always spinning in the Apple world and this time reports are floating around that the Apple TV will gain an optical drive and HD content but could it be that the Apple TV is set to become the Mac Nano?
Arstechnica thinks that Apple is prepared to add HD content and an optical drive to the Apple TV. I think that Apple will either do away with it completely or introduce a product that is more than the Apple TV, much more. Rumors are also floating around that the Mac Mini will be replaced with the Mac Nano which is said to be a smaller, slimmer, sleeker version of the Mac Mini but still retain an optical drive.
It isn’t too much of a leap to suggest that the new Apple TV and Mac Nano are one. Dare I say it is even a “media center” Mac. Think of it, a full blown version of Mac OSX with the media application that ships with the Apple TV.
In my opinion it doesn’t make sense for Apple to produce two very similar products where the only distinction is which OS it is running.
Apple isn’t happy with the sales performance of the Apple TV and the Mac Mini is overdue for a redesign by my clock so I would not be at all surprised if Apple releases the Apple TV and Mac Nano as a single product. Of course, it will probably cost more but will look pretty stylish sitting under your flat panel TV.
