iPhone 1.1.1 hack progress: multipage SpringBoard, another step forward
By Danny Mendez
In the ongoing saga of hacking the iPhone and iPod Touch touting Apple’s latest firmware, hackers yesterday jailbreaked (jailbroke?) the iPhone and were able to successfully install 3rd party apps. Today, the hacking community took another step forward with the multi-page SpringBoard.
In its “stock” form, the SpringBoard, the home-screen area where all the iPhone and Touch apps can be accessed, only allows a maximum of 15 apps to be displayed. Today, TUAW brings us news that a multi-page springboard patch has been developed.
The patch allows you to add an unlimited number of 3rd party apps to the SpringBoard. It achieves this with a new page feature, which will create new SpringBoard pages as needed.
The heroes involved in the creation of the multi-page springboard are known as Drudge, NerveGas, and Pumpkin.
I know we’re all eager to apply this stuff to our own hardware, but the hacking community is working around the clock to ensure that hacking our devices goes as smoothly as possible. They’re working on a general use tool, which should allow us to easily apply these hacks on our own iPhones (and hopefully the iPod Touch too).
