Apple Prepping Webapps Directory Page For The iPhone?
By Sean P. Aune
It would seem that Apple may be prepping a directory page for webapps built with the iPhone in mind.
AppleInsider was contacted by a developer, who wished to remain anonymous, and they informed the Apple rumor site that the computer maker is readying a web-based iPhone apps irectory. If true, and all indicators say it is, this would add credence to the concept that Apple is preferring apps to stay on the web as opposed to being natively installed on the mobile device.
It is being reported that Apple has been contacting authors of iPhone web-apps and requesting that they submit screenshots, icons, web addresses, and descriptions of their apps to be included in the directory.
Further pointing to this rumor being true, there seems to be a page hiding on the Apple website that, as yet, has no content, but is a placeholder. And adding even more evidence, 9to5Mac found some hints in Apple’s “recent downloads RSS feed”, but none of the links are currently functioning.
It’ll be interesting to see how this works out, and if true, how you will get quick access to them on the iPhone. It’s not difficult to imagine there might be the addition of a new button to the home screen, but that would mean another update, and possibly more bricked iPhones.
