Apple redesigns MacBook Pro Magsafe power adapters
By Jonathan Schlaffer
There have been several reports of the insulation fraying on MacBook Pro Magsafe power adapters. Apple seems to have discovered several flaws with the power adapters and has stopped sales of current power adapters until the redesigned adapters can be shipped.
AppleInsider reports on several of the issues which include the aforementioned fraying which creates a fire hazard, a faulty connection between the power port on the laptop and MagSafe connector and failure of the LED indicator to show correct charging status or turn completely off, though power is still being supplied.
Some of the MagSafe adapters have failed completely which left users to scramble for replacements on eBay or third party suppliers.
Apple will not ship replacement adapters until the new, hopefully problem-free, models hit the Apple Store. Currently there is an estimated two to three week wait on MacBook Pro 85W power adapters from the Apple store.
MacBook (non-pro) laptops are not affected.
