Apple officially announces Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard for October 26th
It’s finally official, October 26th is when Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard for 6 PM local time on October 26th.
After incremental information has been shared at just about every Apple media event since the release of Tiger, Apple is finally ready to unleash Leopard upon the world.
The Apple online store is taking pre-orders as of today. Apple stores, and authorized resellers, will have the new OS available as of 6 PM in your time-zone on Friday, October 26th. Anyone who has purchased a qualifying Mac since October 1st will be able to obtain the updated OS for only $9.95 in shipping.
There were no new surprises in the announcement as to features, but none were really expected either. The adopters of the new system can expect updates to iChat, Mail, Finder, and other old favorites. New features include things such as Stacks, Time Machine, a new dock, and more.
Bets can be placed now for which big jungle cat OS X 10.6 will be named for. I am personally pulling for “Tabby”, just to change things up a bit.
