Students shafted on OS X Leopard price
If you students have decided to be mature, honorable, and respectable and NOT try to download an illegal torrent of Leopard, you’ll be happy to hear you get a discount over then normal everyday Joe…but unlike Tiger, which was $79, you’ll be getting it for $116…only $13 off.
Don’t be too fast to complain; after all, with the full version at $129 dollars, you’re getting everything Leopard has to offer. That is a far cry from the ultimate version of Windows; $129 is a steal, without actually stealing it.
That does beg the question, why the skimpy discount on Leopard? Would Apple be losing too much money selling to students for $50 off?
There’s a substantially greater chance that Apple recognizes many more students are using Macs on a daily basis as of late, and they wouldn’t make nearly as much if they sold it for only $13.
However, are the Mac users who are eligible for student discounts really all that concerned ith upgrading to the latest OS? I’d be willing to bet the same people who are going to buy Apple’s new OS without a new machine are the same that did so before Apple’s recent popularity with the general public and college crowd.
Either way, save your $13 dollars if you can, and dream of better days, when the lands were filled with flowing milk and honey and students could save $50 on Apple’s newest OS.

I have to admit, even though I’m quite a MS advocate (sheesh, just look at my posts), the price for the new OS is quite acceptable. You don’t expect a group of writing talent to sit quietly creating an entire operating system that spans a large hardware base, to ask less than $100 per copy, do you? Honestly? Do you have any idea of what that entails? Where I come from, that’s about 15 latte’s. Damn people, give credit where credit is due… Pay for what you use. It’ll come back around, at least in the America I know and love!!! Oh, and did you notice how many computers you are able to install one licensed version on? I think they deserve more money, honestly. They’re doing you a favor and you’re contemplating it? OK, Linux is FREE, right? Now find a distro that you’d give to your own parents, and then shut off your phone. IMPOSSIBLE. Kudos to Apple from a(n) MS fanboy!

PS… Sorry Linux advocates. You guys are great, and so is much of your work… one critique, if I may, please take it as constructive…. I’ve installed at least 5 different distros, and not ONE of them would I give to my friends and family, with the simple knowledge that I would be responsible to support it. I LOVE IT!!! don’t get me wrong, but for the love of “all that is HOLY (Chris Farley voice), consolodate and conquer, damnit.
Peace.
