Steve Jobs hints at iPhone multitouch being used in future Apple products

By Sean P. Aune

Steve Jobs hints at iPhone multitouch being used in future Apple products It seems that Steve Jobs may be hinting at the iPhone and iPod Touch multitouch interface coming to more Apple products in the future.

In an interview with the New York Times today, Steve Jobs had several interesting points to make, but the most fascinating was his hints that Apple is not quite done with their multitouch interface.

“People don’t understand that we’ve invented a new class of interface,” he said.

He contrasted it with stylus interfaces, like the approach Microsoft took with its tablet computer. That interface is not so different from what most computers have been using since the mid-1980s.

In contrast, Mr. Jobs said that multitouch drastically simplified the process of controlling a computer.

This of course could be taken to mean that he considers the iPhone, and the iPod Touch, to be a “computer”, or was he hinting at a future Mac?  Possibly a multitouch tablet Mac?

He also touched on the idea that Leopard may be the anchor of updates for upwards of a decade, with incremental updates every 12 - 18 months.
