Computer unnecessary: True one step iPod Touch/iPhone jailbreakIf you’ve held out on jailbreaking your iPod Touch or iPhone because there’s too much work involved, I have good news for you. Would you believe us that jailbreaking your device is as easy as visiting a website?

It doesn’t matter if you believe us or not, because it is that easy. A new website just popped up promising to jailbreak your 1.1.1 device, patch up the TIFF exploit, and install Installer.app simply by clicking a link.

It’s called http://jailbreakme.com and we don’t recommend going there unless you’re looking to jailbreak your device. If you decide to take the leap, once you’re there, scroll to the bottom and click “Install AppSnapp”. Safari will close, bringing you back to the homescreen. It’s recommended that you turn off homescreen locking for the time being as it puts your device to sleep, which is not a good thing when this is happening. After no more than a couple of minutes, your device should restart. Let it do it’s thing until you’re asked to “Slide to Unlock”.

TUAW, a significant player in the hacking scene, has confirmed the site does what it promises to do. It may not work on the first try, they point out, so if Safari hangs, they recommend holding the Home button to make Safari quit. After closing Safari, simply try again.

If something were to go wrong during the process, you should be able to restore your unit via iTunes to its factory settings. With that said, proceed at your own risk as no one is responsible for what happens to your device but you.

If all goes as planned, you should see an “Installer” icon on your homescreen after the restart. That is the program that lets you install applications. Make sure you’re connected to the Internet, open Installer.app, and choose which programs you’d like to install.

We recommend installing “BSD Subsystem” as many programs including Apollo IM require it. We also recommend “Community Sources” as it will give Installer.app access to many other programs. If you have any other questions about what it means to jailbreak your device, what unlocking means, what other terms mean, and what to do next, visit our iPhone and iPod Touch jailbreak FAQ list.
