iPod Touch / iPhone: Reading magazines on your device
By Danny Mendez
Zinio, a digital publishing company for magazines and books, announced a new service, which will allow Mobile OSX users to read a variety of free magazines on their iPod Touch and iPhone units.
Right now, the service is free, although it’s expected to go the subscription route. In order to access Zinio, simply point your iPhone or iPod Touch browser to http://www.Zinio.com/iPhone. As of this post, we were unable to access the site using an iPod Touch, but that is a common problem when designing sites for both devices. It’s likely this is only a temporary problem.
According to the press release, once you’re at the site, simply flick to scroll through various covers and tap an issue to start reading it. These magazines are exact replications of their print versions. Zinio also offers their selection for viewing on a regular computer.
Some of the magazines currently available include:
- American Photo
- Car & Driver
- Macworld
- Men’s Health
- Popular Mechanics
- Technology Review
- Woman’s Day

Texterity, Inc., a leading publisher of digital magazines in the United States announced that it now has 52 digital publications now available on the iPhone and iPod touch, along with easier access, improved performance, the ability to view pages and visit links of advertisers.
Texterity, Inc., provided a beta release of the first digital magazine interface specifically designed for the Apple iPhone in the summer of 2007 after the iPhone launch. Publishers participating in the iPhone program include Access Intelligence, Bonnier Corporation, EH Publishing, F & W Publications, GIE Media, Hearst Corporation, Meredith Media, Northstar Travel Media, O’Reilly Media, Penton Media, Quest Media, The Old Farmers Almanac, The Reader’s Digest Association, Time, Inc., and Ziff Davis Media.
