NBC shows finally disappear from iTunes
By Danny Mendez
NBC Universal recently announced that it wouldn’t renew its contract with Apple to offer its shows through iTunes, and the company wasn’t bluffing. Despite being the No. 1 supplier of video content on iTunes, NBC network channels have finally disappeared from iTunes.
Acording to MacDaily News, apart from NBC, these channels include Sci Fi, USA, Telemundo, Bravo, NBC Sports, NBC News and others. NBC’s contract was expected to expire this month, although there’s still some shock value in the development. As you can see in the picture above, NBC should fit right in between National Geographic and the NFL Network.
It won’t be as easy to get your NBC fix through an iPod nowadays, but the company will continue to offer its shows online through various outlets.
In terms of convenience, the outlet that best replaces iTunes is Amazon’s unbox. Not only does this service offer a wide selection of movies and TV shows, but it is also compatible with many Tivo set-ups, allowing users to easily watch their content off the computer and in the living room.
NBC will also offer new epidodes of its shows through NBC direct. The service allows users to download shows to their computer, although each file expires one week after the original TV air date. NBC also offers its shows for viewing online through Hulu and NBC.com, allowing users to watch new and old episodes from each current season.
Further adding to video on demand options, NBC will offer old episodes of many of its shows through Netflix’s Watch Now service. NBC will only release new episodes of Heroes through Watch Now, although thosell be available the day after they air.
