Apple’s ultraportable confirmed? 3G iPhone for May and iPod Touch goes big
Here’s some good news for all you 3G lovin’, ultraportable huggin’ Apple fans. Apple’s rumored ultraportable laptop gets unofficially confirmed to be unveiled at San Francisco’s Macworld next month, and the 3G iPhone may hit stores sooner than expected.
See, here’s the deal. CNBC’s Jim Goldman says he has a "very good source" with good connections to Asian manufacturers, and he says that source called him up this morning with some interesting news.
His source says certain Asian manufacturers expect Apple to unveil the rumored ultraportable MacBook at MacWorld in San Francisco next month.
As for the iPhone, we already know it’s coming in 2008, but the question is: when in 2008? According to this source, it’s hitting stores in May or June despite that many analysts believe it won’t hit until the later half of the year.
As for the soure’s final piece of information, iPod Touch manufacturing was increased to 5.1 million units for the holiday season. Why does that matter? It doesn’t, but it’s interesting to note that Apple’s latest baby is a success as opposed to a horrible failure (*cough* Newton *cough*).
Now, I know what you’re thinking. "I should hold off on buying ___________ until the next iteration comes out." If you take that approach to buying anything computer/Apple related, you’ll never buy it.
Once the 3G iPhone or ultraportable hits, there’ll be rumors about the next one, then the next one. GPS. 30 day battery life. Thinner. Lighter. Better. Artificial interlligence. It’s all on the horizon. Just buy what you need right now, and, the next time you need/want something, buy what’s available then. It’s the easy, simple, worry free approach to buying gadgets.

Great! I only hope that Apple delivers a 5-inch or so handheld with full Mac OS X 10.5 for wired and wireless Keynote and PowerPoint presentations via wired or wireless videoprojector, respectively. Now it is possible with the Intel Silverthorne chip!
