Ultraportable Mac price to sit between MacBook and MacBook Pro

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Untitled-1 As MacWorld rumors continue to circulate and even reports of the ultraportable MacBook already circulating the test labs within Cupertino, more rumors have surfaced.

The Ultraportable Mac while still not confirmed it is still anticipated to be one of Steve Jobs announcements during his presentation.  ZDnet is expecting an 11″ to 13″ display and the resolution is likely to be 1280 x 800 (typical for that screen size).

It may be based on a typical hard drive but may employ NAND-flash based storage of up to 64GB.  It may even have touch based inputs based off the iPod Touch though that one may be a little farfetched.

Price is expected to sit between the base MacBook and base MacBook Pro.  Could be higher, could be lower, you know how rumors can be.

I also anticipate that the display will be based off LED technology, that is if this thing actually exists.  It is said to be “the thinnest Mac ever” - who wants to bet that good old Steve says just that during the presentation?

If it is so thin then it will probably not have an optical drive, an external drive could always be an option or even included with the unit itself as Apple (to my knowledge) has never defaulted to using “restore partitions” as a means of restoring the system, it has always been with CD or DVD media.
