Mac users less likely to pirate music than PC users
By Jonathan Schlaffer
The word is in and it appears that Mac users are less likely to pirate music or download from any type of sharing or P2P network. They are also more likely to purchase CDs than their PC using counterparts and take advantage of using portable players for music and video.
AppleInsider picked up some information from NPD which says that 50% of Mac users paid to download music from online stores, in their case, most likely iTunes compared to just 16% of PC users. Mac users were also more likely to purchase or trade CDs.
The data showed that 32% of Mac users bought CDs and just 28% of PC users did the same. More Mac users (34%) than PC (16%) users also use some type of portable digital player (audio, video or both) with content transferred from the computer.
Also, only 31% of PC users listen to music on their computer compared to 56% of Mac users.
The music industry may be in the process of switching over to digital purchases and with CD sales declining but apparently some people are still buying them but those digital purchases are not yet enough to compensate for the lack of CD sales, not to mention the piracy that is occurring.
