Quickbooks for Mac still deleting files
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Intuit’s Quickbook financial software has developed a problem running under OSX. It seems that the software likes to delete files stored on the dekstop, users were advised to move the files to other folders. An update said to fix the problem actually started creating random new files.
The patch was reported to disable the automatic update system but this didn’t work on laptops where different types of Internet hotspots were used with the computer.
The flaw could remanifest itself under those conditions. Users of the software were then advised not to use it while in range of several WiFi networks or were redirected to a login page to use the service.
ComputerWorld says that Intuit is working on a new patch that will eventually be fed automatically to users of Quickbooks 2006 and 2007.
Three businesses lost data and are asking for a class action lawsuit against the company.
So far, it has been unable to develop a method of recovering the data that was deleted due to the flaw but is offering to reimburse users who purchase a copy of the Data Rescue II suite, data recovery software.
