Continued impressions of the professionalism of the MacBook Pro

Continued impressions of the professionalism of the MacBook ProApple offers a lovely line of portable units in the MacBook and MacBook Pro (and whatever the new ultra-portable is to be called come MacWorld January 15th); I recently wrote an article documenting 5 reasons the MacBook Pro is great for everyday usage, not just professional applications.  In this article I’ll give you my continued impressions and recommendations based on using the MacBook Pro for a longer period of time.

Though I’m still a huge fan of the brushed metal look and case of the MacBook Pro, one of my gripes after continued usage is that, like cars, its really hard to tell when the MacBook Pro is dirty.  How is that a complaint, you might ask.

For cleaning purposes, its nearly impossible to tell where the dirt is accumulated or how well you cleaned it.  I admit, I spend copious amounts of time on the MacBook Pro, and I can’t live with the feel of dirt on the computer.  I wish it was a little easier to note the areas that are getting dirty so I can clean it completely.

In regards to the increased quality of the MacBook Pro, I had many readers who responded with complaints about their own MacBook Pro experiences; many users complained that the case wasn’t as sturdy as it should be.

What all of them also mentioned was that any damage to the case resulted from dropping or dinging the MacBook Pro.  To all of those users, just about any laptop you buy will not respond well to dropping, banging, throwing, etc.  When I said the case is sturdy, I was only comparing it to the normal MacBook, which undoubtedly can’t handle as much abuse as the MacBook Pro.

That’s where I stand after using the MacBook Pro for a few months.  Everyone else will enjoy their experiences more if they stop using their MacBook Pros to test gravity.

I lightly spray a cloth with water and apple cider vinegar that I keep in a spray bottle. It cuts through the grime fairly quickly. It’s something I do every few weeks. Thankfully I haven’t dropped my MacBook Pro yet. I purchased it in October 2006.
