Apple may launch direct movie downloads for AppleTV
By Jonathan Schlaffer
The AppleTV hasn’t sold well, or as well as Apple would like it to have. As a result, the company is looking for ways to reinvigorate the AppleTV which may include things such as 24 hour movie rentals and direct movie downloads to the AppleTV.
Apple is still currently negotiating with many of the major studios so this announcement may not be made at MacWorld or it may not be made at all, it just depends on how many compromises Steve Jobs can live with.
When the AppleTV released many complained that there was not enough suitable iTunes content for it, if Apple were to offer up direct movie downloads for purchase or rent that could certainly go a long way to selling more AppleTVs. It could even add a Blu-Ray player (which has been rumored) and DVR functionality to the unit.
Electronista reports that iTunes movie rentals will likely cost $4 each for a 24 hour period after which the file expires and hopefully deletes itself.
