Apple upgrades Mac Pro and Xserve before Macworld 2008

By Danny Mendez

Apple upgrades Mac Pro and Xserve before Macworld 2008Word on the street is "the new Mac Pro is the fastest Mac" ever built. Released along side a new Xserve today, these machines aren’t hip enough for the official Macworld keynote later this month, so the company announced them today.

The 8-core beast comes with two Quad-Core Xeon processors at up to 3.2GHz, a 1600 MHz front side bus, up to 4TB of internal stoage, and 800 MHz memory. The new Mac Pro should help the world’s world’s scientists and content creators reach new heights (at least more quickly).

Unsurprisingly, Apple humbly calls the new Xserve the "most powerful Apple server ever". They system, supposedly twice as fast as the previous model, includes an umlimited client license for Mac OS X Server Leopard. Apple’s latest server baby starts at a mere $3000  and comes with two Quad-Core Xeons too.

While this isn’t the most exciting of news, it’s comforting to know that this isn’t what’s planned for the keynote.
