Flashy cases and pretty colors can’t save the PC
By Triston McIntyre
In a world where the public taste is turning towards all things Apple, PC manufacturers have been largely left out in the cold; to regain a foothold, they are attempting all sorts of crazy things to breathe life back into a asphyxiated industry. News flash: bright, bold and shiny cases still won’t make Windows-based PCs Apple Macs.
Dell has its line of technicolored laptops, Acer has its Ferrari design, Gateway has the One…and Steve Jobs hasn’t lost a wink of sleep. Curious, is it not, that with all the competitively priced, “sexy” machines hitting the market, Apple sales continue to grow?> No matter how flashy or colorful your machine might be, if it isn’t Apple, you’re still wielding Windows…and that is a pity. If computer manufacturers are trying to follow in the footsteps of Apple, flashy cases won’t ease the pain of low sales when Windows Vista is at the heart of every machine on the sales floor. Of course, Apple machines do have that sleek appeal; however, the greatest appeal of a Mac lies in OS X and subsequent software.
Is that to say that computer manufacturers shouldn’t try to make their products as chic as possible, even though those machines won’t ever have the superior OS and software? No; it simply means that the fate of PC manufacturers lies in the hands of Bill Gates and Windows. If the manufacturers want better sales, they’d best bang on Microsoft’s doors and demand a better heart to implant in those shiny cases.

Did I miss aliens swooping down and swapping out PCs for Macs? You’re full of predictions without any kind of facts or numbers, first on the Jesus Phone, now the fate of PC companies. You do know the number of PCs vs Mac is still around 9-1, yes? This is Mac Daily News stuff. Black Belt fanboi stuff.
At least give us some Lotto numbers.
