Apple’s Mac Mini finds job as soldier, goes "military bad-ass" (again)
By Jonathan Schlaffer
You may remember the rugged Mac Mini from last year, made by Victor Systems. Well, the company is back with version 2 of the rugged Mac Mini, it’s slimmer, smaller but Victor assures us that it is just as durable as the first version.
Triston McIntyre wrote about the rugged Mini from last year calling it Military bad-ass and the perfect computer for entertainment in a bomb shelter.
I’d say it’d be the perfect thing to compliment one of the military Humvees, connect a GPS unit to it and off you go. I know the military has GPS units but nothing beats a computer when it comes to GPS coordinates and maps.
This isn’t meant for the average consumer to purchase unless you’re going to the Amazon (rain forest), Iraq or just some dusty, hot or humid, moist and hot environment and need to take a computer along with you, just make sure that you have a generator to power the thing.
The new rugged mini is constructed of the same aircraft grade materials as the original, just more compact, if you can describe any rugged computer as being “compact.”
It really looks like an old computer from the 1970s or early 1980s back when they knew how to build machines that didn’t crash or falter during a minor electrical storm.
To compliment the system you can also get a rugged keyboard, mouse, speaker and monitor, as well as a stand, of sorts. Below you will see what the complete package looks like, it’s not pretty but will survive some of the harshest environments that would destroy standard computers.
