Skype hacked to work on AppleTV
By Leslie Poston
Don’t you want to make Skype calls and message people while you watch your AppleTV? Thanks to a resourceful hacker, now you can. This hack joins a few others to add capability to the AppleTV, which is really a CPU for your TV which makes it very adaptable and programmer friendly.
You can already use popular hacks for AppleTV to view DivX movies on your AppleTV, use a wireless keyboard with it, use JamanTV and even get GPS info. This hack now enables you to multitask, discussing what you are looking at with friends or talking to colleagues while you watch television and work on your laptop (something I do quite a bit).
the Canadian programmer, Brandon Holland, wants to get it to work with a USB headset as well. However it works, on a headset or through your television speakers, this is a much needed hack that will add call functionality to the AppleTV. I think it will be one of the more popular hacks that have come out for the AppleTV in recent months.
A screenshot of the hack in action is below. You can see that it gives you your balance and offers access to the other features of Skype, just like using the program. Only the skin is different. Holland hopes to have the hack completed by mid 2008, offering the beta up “as soon as he can successfully complete a call”. Excellent news!
