Leave it to Apple, designing products no one will really need or want and accessories that only work with a single computer. That’s right, the optical drive designed specifically for the MacBook Air won’t work with any other computer.At this point it’s almost what one would expect.

All roads lead back to this year’s MacWorld, many were disappointed with the announcements as there were no widespread product revisions/announcements and by all counts, the MacBook Air is seen as “bad fruit.” Apple stocks are down temporarily but the long term outlook is good and it’s possible some new MacBook Pros are due soon.

With MacWorld comes all good things; okay, perhaps not the Macbook Air, or updates to the Apple’s wireless router, but know that good things spill forth from Cupertino in all arenas shortly after MacWorld. For those of you who aren’t completely enamored with the new Macbook Air, rumor has it that the real Clydesdales of the Apple portable lineup, the Macbook Pros, are due to receive the bigger trackpad (and yummy features) of the Air and an updated processor.

Don’t you want to make Skype calls and message people while you watch your AppleTV? Thanks to a resourceful hacker, now you can. This hack joins a few others to add capability to the AppleTV, which is really a CPU for your TV which makes it very adaptable and programmer friendly.

The MacBook Air lacks an optical drive and is therefore one of the first laptops that is able to share the optical drive of another computer wirelessly. It is also able to boot wirelessly in this manner as well. Apple will be rolling out this feature to new Macs as well.

Here’s the epitome of in-your-face flashiness: though Jobs probably doesn’t recommend packing your new baby away in a real manila envelope for transportation, there is a legitimate carrying case lookalike being produced.

The last thing on a lot of our minds is where to put those downloaded files and they usually end up occupying a folder on the desktop. Unless they are filed away permanently, this can create a messy desktop after a while. Windows users should be familiar with Iconoid which hides desktop icons. Mac users also have a utility to do the same, Desktopple.

The MacBook Air as I’m sure you are all now well aware is the thinnest, lightest and most expensive laptop to come out of the door of Cupertino, so far. As such, many assumed it would be difficult to service yourself but it turns out that may not be the case, at least when it comes to the battery.

The company that was doing so swimmingly last year has seen a drop in stock prices, just as Steve Jobs announced these seemingly great products that would be joining the Apple lineup. The future isn’t looking bright for 2008, but there might be a few saving graces for both Apple and the shareholders.

Usually, during and after the MacWorld keynote, Apple stocks take a slight rise but that did not happen after the MacWorld 2008 keynote speech. Steve Jobs did little more than announce incremental updates to the iPod Touch, iPhone and announced the MacBook Air.
