Apple launches “how-to” subsection to guide new users

February 2, 2008

apple.jpeg In a nod to the growing number of people now switching from Windows to the Apple OS, Apple has created a subsection of its site that is meant to act as a guide for the new user. The section deals with a variety of questions new users have from porting data to dual booting Windows and Mac OS X. It is a much needed feature, offering Apple sponsored solutions to problems that up until now were only available by searching the Internet.

In a rare moment of non-creativity, the subsection is named “Find Out How”. Perhaps Apple, usually known for hip titles, thought a traditional Apple tongue in cheek title like iHelp would have scared the average Windows user away. Regardless, you can find the subsection under the Apple tab at the Apple site.

More than just lip service, the section offers useful tips on how to use some of Apple’s most popular programs, in addition to answers to switch over questions. In fact, the answers to some of the questions on how to use programs like iMovie will even be beneficial to the long tern Mac user, offering tips and tricks to make creating things on your Mac faster and easier.

The basic questions about switching over can be found in the Get Started With Mac area, which includes sections on how a Mac is set up (Anatomy of a Mac), Moving to a Mac and Windows on a Mac. Other sections include Customizing Your Mac, with tutorials on everything from your screen saver to automatically opening the applications your use most; and sections on using specific Apple programs like iCal, Safari, your Dock and more.
