A Mac-head’s dilemma: hacked iPhone or iPod Touch?

By Triston McIntyre

A Mac-head’s dilemma: hacked iPhone or iPod Touch?Dear Readers:  unfortunately, my beloved 30 Gb black iPod video recently jumped the twig.  I must say, I was only slightly disappointed, because it gave me a reason to buy a new Apple gadget.  The question, though, is whether to buy a hacked iPhone or an iPod Touch.

You see, I currently use T-mobile and have absolutely no intentions of switching to the awful network that is AT&;T just because Apple sleeps over at AT&T’s place all the time.  With that in mind, I am a devout admirer of the iPhone, and want one very much.

Most likely, I won’t be able to wait 2 years, or however long the exclusivity agreement constitutes, to get an iPhone.  Luckily, there are ways to unlock the iPhone to use on my beloved T-mobile.

However, my dilemma is this: with the recent addition of the 16 Gb iPhone and the 32 Gb Touch, which do I choose?  Sure, the Touch has more capacity, but you lose screen quality, and most importantly, I’d still be carrying my T-Mobile Dash around with my iPod.  As a minimalist, that doesn’t sound fantastic.

On the flip side, though I’d love the iPhone, I’d be subjecting myself to fewer features than the AT&T iPhone has, I wouldn’t get Apple or T-mobile support for the phone, and I’d obviously have less storage capacity.  But then, it is the best phone on the market.

What do you readers prefer?  Did you break down and switch to AT&T?  Do you have a larger iPod in addition and don’t mind two devices?  Did you hack an iPhone?  I’d love to hear your opinions and personal preferences.  Until next time, adieu.

The ipod touch has exactly the same screen quality as the iphone… I have seen both and I really can not identify any difference between these… As for the usage, I bought the touch, cause I have a quite up to date symbian phone (sony p990) I love the touch, and I love the fact that it is a a small computer… It is far thinner than the iphone, and the only drawback is that you will need a wifi hotspot to access internet… If only it had a blue tooth to connect it to my phone… But well, we cant have everything!!!

I hear you! My Treo is dying, I’m a TMobile user and like the service they give (they unlock phones when traveling no matter how long you’ve had it and have much better european roaming deals and have saved my arse a couple of times while traveling and …).

So what to do. I’d prefer the iPhone, I don’t mind limiting my music to 8G (I’d probably not pump the extra $$ for the 16G).

Not sure what form of unlock to pursue if I do go with the iPhone. (It annoys the hell out of me to have to defend myself from Apple.) I’d likely do a ***Sim solution, they seem the most successful.

I’ll follow your progress with interest! Good luck and great topic.
