iPhone FaceBook page comes out of the woodwork
By Leslie Poston
A while back, a member of FaceBook’s Parakey team, Joe Hewitt, created a version of FaceBook for the iPhone. The page, found here, is able to be viewed using any browser. Up until now, FaceBook for the iPhone wasn’t a well publicized application.
Sure, it garnered plenty of users, but most people found out from a friend, or from a blog or web site, that it was available. That is all about to change as Apple’ marketing department release the next iPhone commercial. the new commercial features he application prominently, and can be viewed on the Apple web site if you haven’t seen it on television in your area yet.
I hope the creators of this application of FaceBook are ready. FaceBook has been known to experience down time in the past when third party applications or popular FaceBook features become suddenly popular. You know that an Apple commercial will put this page over the top in viewers and add some strain to the servers at FaceBook, but its just money in their pocket, right?
The site has a buttoned-down, streamlined look for the iPhone, designed to feature you news feed prominently with tabs to take you to other areas of the site, like your Profile or Inbox. FaceBook has become as seemingly graphics and application heavy as MySpace lately, and I find the iPhone interface refreshing even on a regular browser as a break from all the visual noise. I may find myself browsing the page in iPhone format more often just to give my eyes a break.
