More Apple Rumors: Video game patent and a recent job offer for a game developer, is Apple getting into gaming?
Trademork reported that Apple filed a video game patent to protect their Apple trademark earlier this month. Some have brushed this information aside stating that Apple is just covering their bases, or they think it could be related to iPod games. While, others have been looking at the phrase within the patent “stand alone video gaming machines” with much interest and think there might be more to it.
Towards the end of last year Apple posted a job for a game developer on their website. Many people wondered why a gaming developer was needed? Was the job related to handheld games for the iPod and iPhone or was it something more? Perhaps Apple is taking a serious look at gaming?

Apple isn’t new to gaming. In the mid 1990s, before Steve Jobs came back rejoined Apple, Apple created a multimedia platform called “Pippin“. Apple wanted to make an inexpensive system that played games, CD based multimedia titles, and function as a network computer. However, Pippin wasn’t that successful.
Apple has shown us the versatility of OS X. They’ve moved it from computers like the MacBook Pro, and have successfully integrated it into portable handheld devices like the iPhone and iPod touch. It also has surfaced in the Apple TV. Which shows us that a set top box is a possibility?
If Apple is developing, a gaming platform many believe it will focus on more than gaming. Judging by the success that Apple is having with its handheld devices many estimate that it’s only a matter of time before Apple focuses on gaming. Perhaps that time is now.

Guess what? Steve Jobs plans to sell new games for iPod Touch & iPhone operated by the accelerometers interface & to be developed by third parts (companies for sure as well self motivated small developers & Apple lovers). One more product for iTunes store and one more reason to get a brand new iPhone. During the first SDK presentation for iPhone, it was clear the message where Apple wants its third part lovers to focus on.
