Call of Duty 4 and Spore, coming to the Mac!

By Opal Tribble

call-of-duty-4.jpgIt’s official two more games are being added to the Mac lineup, Call of Duty 4 and Spore.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare

The PC to Mac porting company, Aspyr, has announced that Call of Duty 4 will be coming to the Mac in May 2008. The award winning team Infinity Ward created the Call of Duty series. They’ve had great success with the Call of Duty series and have been successful with creating tension and terror of the battlefield.

Call of Duty 4 is nonstop adventure. You’ll switch between the perspective of the British S.A.S. and the US Marines. In Call of Duty 4, you are supplied with an arsenal of modern day advanced firepower to help you defend yourself against rogue rival groups. You’re transported at various hotbeds of activity around the world. Call of Duty 4 story develops while you are playing the game. You’re guaranteed a heart-thudding adventure filled with never-ending twists as you battle your way through the game. I’ve played the series and am happy to see Call of Duty 4 makes its way to the Mac platform.

Spore

The gaming genius behind Spore is Will Wright. He created the Sims. Have you ever wanted to create your own universe? Spore gives you that power. With Spore you can mod, create, and animate your own creatures. Make them as freaky or as tame as you like. You’re the creater. You evolve a life form from the unrecognizable mass of early life to a highly intelligent being. An added bonus is content created by Mac and PC users can be shared with each other. Spore is scheduled to be released on September 7, 2008.

Last year games such as Prey, Star Wars: Empire at War, and World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade were ported to the Mac. Several Mac gamers are still waiting for Gears of War to finally make an appearance.

The popularity of the Mac OS X is increasing. I believe we’ll see more games developed for the Mac. I’ll definitely support the companies that make games for the Mac by purchasing the games. After all, the success of Mac games is in our hands. If we don’t support these companies there really isn’t a reason for them to make the games.

They can make all the games they want for Macs but until Apple start making iMacs that can upgrade the video cards, Macs will remain a bit of a joke for gaming…

    2. Opal Tribble:

      Bob,
Perhaps they will eventually update the iMac to a video card that is suitable for gaming. When I switched to the Mac I looked for a system that would support gaming that is why I went with the MacBook Pro an iMac would not do the job.

I have a Windows laptop which I purchased last year it is perfectly acceptable for doing work when it comes to gaming there were many games I cannot play. I should have bought a system suited for gaming.

    3. Bob:

Opal Tribble, The MacBook Pro is nice for a laptop but it’s a dead end when it comes to gaming. The video card, while suitable for now, is designed for power saving, not high performance. Upgrades are another issue, while technically possible to upgrade the video chipset in the MacBook, I doubt we will be seeing any sort of high performance video cards for it anytime soon.

      Bob,
I use my MacBook Pro to play a few games. However, I mainly play games on my Xbox 360. I mainly use my MacBook Pro for work, video editing, and photography. I do a lot of video editing on my MacBook Pro but that doesn’t have too much to do with the video card. I used to be a computer gamer but I moved to console games about six years ago. The Mac games I do have are doing well on the MacBook Pro but it’s definitely not as good as my Xbox 360.

Tomb Raider Anniversary has a free download available so I’m going to try and check that out this weekend to see how it performs on my MacBook Pro. I haven’t played the series in a while. I’m also looking forward to Gears of War, and I want to see how it compares to Xbox 360.

I’ll definitely pick up COD4 and Spore. I might pick up a copy for Windows so I can see the comparison.

Of course, I would love to see high performance video cards on the MacBook Pro oh and more games on the Mac.
