A perfect match: Apple & Fox partner, American Idol songs and performances are available exclusively on iTunes

American-Idol.jpgFor the first time Fox Broadcasting Company, Fox Interactive Media, 19 Entertainment, and Freemantle have teamed up with Apple to bring American Idol fans their favorite performers to iTunes. American Idol fans will now able to download their favorite songs to enjoy on their Mac or PC, iPod classic, iPod nano with video, iPod touch, fifth generation iPod, iPhone, or wide-screen TV with Apple TV.

“We have some truly outstanding talent this year, and by working with Apple and iTunes, we’re giving viewers another great way to enjoy America’s brightest new stars from ‘Idol,’” said Simon Fuller, creator of “American Idol” and Founder of 19 Entertainment, in the press release. “I’m sure there will be many memorable performances that viewers will want to relive from this 2008 season.”

iTunes is launching the new service this week. They will be featuring the top 24 semifinalists. American Idol fans will be able to purchase the contestant’s performances by logging onto the iTunes store the day after the performance. The cost will 99 cents for each song downloaded. Customers will also be able to purchase the full video of the Top 12 finalist for $1.99 starting March 11. Pre-ordering will also be an option. Fans will be able to select the songs they would like to purchase by logging onto the iTunes website and making their selections. Your selections will be available the day after it airs.

“We’ve created a special section on the iTunes Store for ‘Idol’ fans with an incredible array of music and video performances from television’s most popular show,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes, in the press release. “We think ‘American Idol’ viewers are going to love the ability to purchase and download ‘Idol’ performances from iTunes.”

You will still be able to watch streaming performances by logging onto American Idol.com. However the website will now feature direct links to the iTunes store for those who are interested in purchased their favorite performances.

iTunes is the worlds most popular online music store. They’ve sold over four billion songs and they boast the worlds largest music catalog topping over six million songs. If you don’t have iTunes installed on your computer you can download iTunes 7.6 for free. It’s available for Mac and Windows users.
