Apple store is closed. Will we see an iPhone SDK or an updated MacBook Pro?

By Opal Tribble

Apple-maintenance.jpgApple has closed their store for the third Tuesday in a row. Will we see an updated MacBook Pro today? If you take a look at my previous post along with the comments you know that many people are waiting on an updated MacBook Pro.

Perhaps we’ll see the long awaited iPhone SDK? Steve Jobs announced that the iPhone and the iPod touch would be available for third party applications this February. Steve said.

“Let me just say it: We want native third party applications on the iPhone, and we plan to have an SDK in developers’ hands in February. We are excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community around the iPhone and enabling hundreds of new applications for our users. With our revolutionary multi-touch interface, powerful hardware and advanced software architecture, we believe we have created the best mobile platform ever for developers.”

I’m guessing that Time Capsule will be ready for shipment in one of these updates. However, I don’t think it will be the main announcement. Currently the Time Capsule is available for pre-order on the Apple website. It provides an automatic wireless backup for your Mac computers. It’s available in 500GB and 1TB models. I currently have a OWC Mercury Elite Pro 1TB external hard drive for my 17″ MBP. I do like the idea of a wireless backup for all my computers. Time Capsule is designed to work with the Time Machine in Mac OS X Leopard so you will have to upgrade to Leopard in order for it to work.

Last Tuesday the big announcement was Aperture 2. Aperture is an excellent photo editing software and I use it weekly for my needs. Will this be a major update to the Apple product line? I’m not sure when I checked Apple stores in New Zealand they were open for business. As I’ve mentioned in prior posts Apple usually does their product updates on Tuesday. As soon as we find out what’s new to the Apple store we’ll post it here on Mac.BlORGE.com.

Update: We didn’t receive an updated MacBook Pro or iPhone SDK but Apple did release the Xsan 2. Apple also slashed the prices of the iPod Shuffle.
