MacBook Pro part numbers materialized in inventory systems. Is the waiting over?

February 25, 2008

MacBook-Pro-1.jpgApple Insider was able to confirm that three Apple formatted part numbers MB402LL/A, MB403LL/A, and MB404LL/A have materialized in inventory management systems of both Apple and one of its resellers Best Buy. The part numbers, for future MacBook Pro models, also included pricing that matches current prices offered by Apple, $1999.00, $2499.00 and $2799.00. That’s good news for those looking to update their Mac or switch over to a new Mac since you won’t be paying a higher price.

The MacBook Pro was scheduled to be released during MacWorld 2008 however Although the new professional notebooks had been slated for an introduction at or around Macworld Expo, an executive decision made late last year pushed the release back by several weeks.

What should we expect to see with the updated MacBook Pro? The Core 2 Duo Penryn mobile processors created by Intel. Many also expect to see the multi-touch trackpad with this update, and I believe that is a safe bet. We first saw the multitouch featured in the Apple iPhone, and that was extended to the iPod touch. Thus far the first Mac to receive it is the MacBook Air. Since the gestures are software driven we might see updates added to the multitouch trackpad later down the line. Will the updated MacBook Pro be released tomorrow? Perhaps; however, sources have cautioned that product availability can take up to a few weeks from when part numbers first turn up in their systems. I’ll be updating my 17″ MacBook Pro this year but I believe I’ll hold out for a major update.

Apple offers educational discounts to students, teachers, administrators, or staff members. You can also receive a discount if you work for the state or local government agencies. The discounts are automatic so the only waiting you’ll be doing is for your new Mac. Thanks to the Apple discount I saved a lot of money not only on my customized MacBook Pro but also Apple software.

Earlier today we noted that Time Capsule was appearing in the Best Buy flyer. As soon as we have additional information about the updated MacBook Pro line we’ll post it here on MAC.BLORGE.com.
